#TBT!
In the Spring of 2005, we exhibited Nasreen Mohamedi: Lines among Lines which presented the contemplative abstract drawings and photographs of the under-recognized Indian artist Nasreen Mohamedi (1937-1990). The exhibition featured thirty of the artist's fine-line drawings created from the early 1960s to the late 1980s, as well as fifteen of her black-and-white photographs.
Mohamedi's spare drawings were informed by ideas of modernity and by the geometry of Islamic architecture. The exhibition highlighted the exchange between drawing and photography throughout Mohamedi's work. In both media, the artist reduced structures and spaces to patterns of diagonals and planes.
