Behind the scenes of "Abdelkader Benchamma: Representation of Dark Matter" The Drawing Center is sharing behind-the-scenes looks at the making of our exhibitions leading up to ‪#‎GivingTuesday, on December 1st. Today, we will be focusing on a commissioned project by contemporary artist Abdelkader Benchamma, currently on view in our stairwell. For his first U.S. museum presentation, Abdelkader Benchamma created an astronomical vortex in the strikingly graphic large-scale drawing, "Representation of Dark Matter". Benchamma’s monochromatic use of such drawing tools as black felt-tip pens, India ink, and charcoal against the gallery wall’s pristine surface results in a subtle array of tones and textures that straddles the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. The exhibition is curated by Joanna Kleinberg Romanow, Adjunct Assistant Curator. Each of The Drawing Center's exhibitions requires a little something different.
