Behind the scenes of "Abdelkader Benchamma: Representation of Dark Matter" The Drawing Center is sharing behind-the-scenes looks at the making of our exhibitions leading up to ‪#‎GivingTuesday, on December 1st. Today, we will be focusing on a commissioned project by contemporary artist Abdelkader Benchamma, currently on view in our stairwell. For his first U.S. museum presentation, Abdelkader Benchamma created an astronomical vortex in the strikingly graphic large-scale drawing, "Representation of Dark Matter". Benchamma’s monochromatic use of such drawing tools as black felt-tip pens, India ink, and charcoal against the gallery wall’s pristine surface results in a subtle array of tones and textures that straddles the boundaries between figuration and abstraction.
