Rashid Johnson: Anxious Men is on view through December 20. #Repost burning_in_water_art ・・・ "Anxious Men" is a site-specific installation that recalls Johnson's most recent solo show, "Smile," at Hauser & Wirth in London. The unique portraits are rendered in two of Johnson's favored materials--black soap and wax--on a backdrop of white ceramic tiles. The agitated but ambiguous expressions are rendered by etching and engraving the black wax on the surface. As with much of Johnson's work, the portraits seem to allude simultaneously to both intensely personal psychology and broader socio-cultural phenomena.
