ON VIEW: "Name It by Trying to Name It: Open Sessions 2014-15" has taken first floor of the museum over to an exploration of contemporary drawing, encompassing performance, video, sculpture, and installation, as well as traditional drawing forms.
Open Sessions artist Becky Brown on her work: "I investigate drawing by way of The Pantoum, a Malay verse form consisting of an indefinite number of quatrains. The second and fourth lines of each quatrain repeated as the first and third lines of the following one. My calendar drawing is a quotidian grid. Calendars are generally private so it seemed funny to me to make it enlarged and "public" in this way. The repetition of phrases seemed a perfect fit for the repetition (daily/weekly routines, appointments, etc.) of a calendar. In my drawing, each line of the pantoum is in a box of the calendar, a “day." This piece is on view through August 2.
