A Page from the Drawing Papers Archive
This page from Drawing Papers 28 features Untitled, from the series “Ten Thousand Things that Breathe,” a ballpoint pen on paper drawing created by
#Renato in 1999.
The 2002 exhibition
#RealisticMeans featured six artists who employed realism as a means of exploring issues like deconstruction, meditation, obsession, and memory. For the these artists, the choice of realism was an informed one, untainted by their longing to be validated as skillful, and guided solely by the need to solve and express particular problems at a given moment. In Renato’s work, drawing serves as a meditational act that refined his knowledge of his surroundings.
The Drawing Papers are a series of publications documenting The Drawing Center’s exhibitions and public programs and providing a forum for the study of drawing. -Kate Robinson, Bookstore Manager
