Excerpts: "The British artist Tacita Dean, who is normally based in Berlin, has spent the past year in Los Angeles as the Getty Research Institute’s current Artist in Residence. Best known for her 16-mm films in which themes of time, disappearance, and materiality predominate, the artist has recently been working on a series of large-scale drawings—a medium to which she returned in 2012, following a ten-year hiatus.
