#ThrowbackThursday “What can Art do? Why am I doing this? Can a drawing change the world? What’s the point? --Kathleen Henderson In the fall of 2008, The Drawing Center featured works of Viewing Program artist Kathleen Henderson in the exhibit "What If I Could Draw a Bird That Could Change the World?". She deployed a sparse, tense, and energetic line to make drawings that were at turns comic, perverse, poignant, and brutal, drawn with oil stick, her preferred medium. Henderson’s exhibition consisted of stark images of ambiguous figures partaking in equally ambiguous acts, which called the viewer to question the actions portrayed. The artist’s illustrations reflected contemporary news stories as much as age-old concepts such as “complicity” and “accusation”, which appeared at times, as playful or possibly malevolent. #TBT #KathleenHenderson Image: Kathleen Henderson, Hole (detail), 2008.
