#ThrowbackThursday “Painting for the adventure, painting so that the adventure of the uncertain, of the unexpected might last.” -#HenriMichaux As a poet and a painter, Henri Michaux found his balance between verbal and visual languages. Through these two creative outlets he explored both his inner world and foreign lands. In 2000, our exhibition “Untitled Passages” investigated Michaux’s graphic works in tandem with his poetic practice, addressing the artist-poet’s research into the passages between “writing” and “drawing.” Not having been trained as a painter, Michaux’s frenetic scribbles and meandering lines came from “the momentum of sudden inspiration, and not traced out in laborious, prosaic, exhaustive, bureaucratic fashion—this is what spoke to [him], seized [him], and carried [him] away.” He wrote: “My lack of skill continues to provide me with surprises.
