#ThrowbackThursday! Have you come to see our newly commissioned wall drawing "Representation of Dark Matter" by the French artist #AbdelkaderBenchamma? Walking down to our main stairwell, you will be drawn into the massive vortex. In 2000, The Drawing Center invited Brazilian artist #AdrianneGallinari to create a new work directly on the walls of its Drawing Room. Born in Belho Horizonte, Brazil, in 1965, Gallinari’s art practice was influenced by the Neo-Concrete movement. The leading Brazilian artists such as #HélioOiticica and #LygiaClark called for the direct relationship between the artwork and the viewer. They aspired to activate the viewer’s experience through his or her interaction with the artwork. In the installation at the gallery, Gallinari created a kind of visual poetry through drawings that combined groups of human figures and barely legible Portuguese writing.
