FRANK: Whenever I meet someone and I'm drawn to their face, I'll ask them if I can photograph them. I usually like to go to their home, light them, dress them, and then photograph them. I keep the pictures, and then when I start a painting or a drawing, I go into that pile and pull out whatever seems appropriate. But with these stories, I knew right away what figures I wanted as the protagonists, and most of them are women.
