In the 1960s she came to New York to study with Merce Cunningham and co-founded the Judson Dance Theater with Lucinda Childs, David Gordon, Deborah Hay, Yvonne Rainer, and Steve Paxton. Not only a prolific choreographer who has worked in contemporary dance and opera, Trisha Brown is also an acclaimed visual artist. In 1998, the Drawing Center organized an exhibition “Trisha Brown Free Measures: Drawings”. Drawing is a vital part of Brown’s creative process. She does not consider drawing as notation.
