A Page from the Drawing Papers Archive This page from #DrawingPapers 69 features Reticulárea, a three dimensional drawing made of stainless-steel and wire created by Venezuelan artist #Gego. The 2007 exhibition, "Gego, Between Transparency and the Invisible", explored the intriguing relationship between line and light in the work of Gego (Gertrud Goldschmidt, 1912-1994) and traced her interest in “making visible the invisible” through a series of monotypes and delicate drawings without paper. Gego began exploring the structural system of triangles in 1969, with interest in the irregular shapes formed by the voids that result from the joining of the wires. Reticulárea, as the name designates, is a weave in the shape of a net. This body of work resulted from the liberation of the scheme of parallel lines that Gego began developing a decade earlier.
