Small Wild Things
That shine
Obstinately. --Franck André Jamme
#ThrowbackThursday
The French poet Franck André Jamme has collected works on paper by anonymous artists from the Northern eastern Indian state of Rajasthan for nearly three decades. These modest yet compelling
#Tantric drawings were created for followers of the Tantric school of Hinduism to aid their spiritual practice. The papers have been used for meditation and passed down for generations. The beautiful abstract and geometric images were painted in gouache, tempera, and watercolor. Stains left on the pages allude to the lives that have previously touched these works.
In 2004, the exhibition “Field of Color: Tantra Drawings” from India presented works made in the last decade and were descendants of a 400-year long Hindu Tantrism tradition.
