The 2012 exhibition, José Antonio Suárez Londoño: The Yearbooks, celebrated Londoño’s fifteen year old daily drawing practice, based on a book that he reads over the course of a year. Collected in his notebooks (often called yearbooks,) Londoño applies a straight-forward regime: Take a text, find a passage of inspiration, and make a drawing every day. The results are anything but predictable, and his 65 notebooks containing more than 5,000 drawings highlight his endless pool of creativity, referencing sources ranging from the diaries of Klee, Kafka, and Deacroix; Ovid’s Metamorphosis; and the poems of Blaise Cendrars, Arthur Rimbaud, and Patti Smith.
