Did you know the university’s Regent Theatre was constructed in 1919 at a cost of $100,000? . It first opened as a movie theatre and vaudeville hall, and then switched to a cinema only when "talking" movies made their advent. Its King Street façade was modelled on Georgian architectural lines and as such the architectural features are very symmetrical. The building is one of the few remaining examples in Oshawa of this classically inspired architectural style. . Given the theatre's history, the role it has played in downtown Oshawa and the special attachment the community continues to have for the Regent, the university is proud to have played a part in the restoration of the theatre returning it to its former glory. .
