"Being a Spurs Fan is PURO SAN ANTO! It's become part of the S.A. culture and the S.A. way," says Dalia Flores Contreras, CEO for City Education Partners (CEP), an education non-profit in San Antonio.
Dalia has been a part of CEP for three years, where she focuses on ensuring that San Antonio has the best schools in the world, schools that allow our next generation to live choice-filled lives and command their future. "I grew up in a space that pushed assimilation. That meant speaking Spanish wasn't valued, and doing anything that remotely made you look or act "Mexican" was frowned upon. I grew up not really knowing my culture and saw parts of my culture stripped away as the years went by, from the language to food, music, and traditions. As an adult, I am rebuilding my language and embracing my culture one meal, song, and palabra at a time.
