In 1962 when Chi Chi Rodriguez was the assistant golf professional at the Dorado Beach Hotel in Puerto Rico, he gave a golf lesson to a vacationing Gerald Ford, who was then a congressman from Michigan's 5th congressional district. Ford later sent him a check for the lesson issued in the amount of $7.50 -- roughly $62.00 in today's dollars -- by the House of Representatives, which Rodriguez never cashed.
