The small Mom-and-Pop shops that make Magnolia Park great are being forced out by extreme rent increases. Landlords have begun to recognize that Magnolia Park has become a very desirable area and they see the potential to make a lot of money. Unfortunately these small businesses cannot afford the rent hike so they are being forced to either move or close their doors. We risk losing the charm of small business, the community vibe we love, the uniqueness that is Magnolia Park. Also, we risk losing Ladies Night Out AND Holiday in the Park. Two beloved events that are a huge draw for this our community and these businesses. The city does not pay for these events, they are put on by the Magnolia Park Merchant Association. If the businesses go, the foundation goes. If the foundation goes, the events go. It's a domino effect and we're very close to tumbling over.
