When I got asked to write for Pieces From Hope, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t super excited about it. I’ve been putting it off since August. You see, the request came to me during a season of my life that I have never found myself in before. I have had times in my life where I have doubted that God was real. That’s not what this was. For the first time, I didn’t feel God. I knew he was real, but it seemed as if he was on the other side of a football field. I almost felt as if he were dangling me over a cliff. It's a pretty unsettling feeling when your job is to stand on a stage and lead a congregation into the throne room of a God you’re not feeling is there.
At our November all-staff meeting in West Des Moines, the theme was “Rest”. In my mind, I had way too much work to do and didn't have time to spend an hour in prayerful rest. To say I was not excited is an understatement. I sat for the next 45 minutes or so ‘doing’ the prayer exercises provided and singing along.
But then.
But...
