Regranned from markelsonpictures - A color film negative photograph from my book Battlefields of Honor: American Civil War Reenactors from Merrell Publishers. I made this image in Southern California, yes they reenact the Civil War in California, California played an important role in the “Late Unpleasantness” with the gold fields making up 25% of the U.S. funding of the war. The Confederacy wanted to capture the harbor 20 miles south of Los Angeles to bring in supplies and material to fight the blockade of their Southern ports. The photograph shows US Sanity Commission members the forerunner of the American Red Cross.
