Two weeks ago we asked tonatiu_lopez who he would like to race most. He said there was no one he wanted to face off against more than Donavan Brazier.
On Saturday, the reigning champion of the world roared onto the final stretch in the lead, punching the air with his fists. Closing hard on the outside was the Mexican national record holder, stretching the limits of his lengthy stride and straining for every inch, mouth agape. In the end, DB held off the contender to remain undefeated in the 800m since his world championship victory in Doha. Both men covered their second laps faster than their first.
It was the most impressive 800m field assembled anywhere in the world this year.
That’s good old-fashioned racing, but never doubt the champ.
