Into the Electric Forest The iconic wooden covered grandstand encircled by Douglas Firs has become hallowed ground in track and field. Lewis and Clark’s Griswold Stadium will once again play host to the marvelous performances to play out in the rings at the Portland Track Festival and the Stumptown Twilight. When you step into the grove at dusk, you are transported to a place where anything can happen. Set atop the Palatine Hill, it takes its name from the rise in Rome where the emperor’s palace sat overlooking the Circus Maximus, giving the rulers a prime seat to watch the athletic feats and races around the track below. Who will steal the show this year in the 400m surrounded by reality? A win in Portland is a win that echoes.
