Suguru Osako had been coming up short in the 2020 Tracklandia Space Race Program Series. He kicked off his campaign on the track with a 3:50 1500m in the Big Friendly in a place the marathon great was not accustomed to placing. At the Bigger Friendly, Osako placed second in the 3k and held off a hard charging Henry Wynne. When the legendary Garrett Heath hung around in the latter stages of the 3k on Friday night, the online fans wondered if Sugar’s night wasn’t to be as sweet as he’d imagined. As both men rounded the final bend, Heath drew even and pulled ahead partway down the stretch. But as soon as Garrett got the edge, Sugar roared back to claim his first victory of the series by grains. The marathoner’s final 200 meters were covered in 28.5.
