Professor Michael Chiarappa brings history to life for members of #BobcatNation. ⠀ ⠀ Here, his students haul lines on the 178-year-old Charles W. Morgan, the last of an American whaling fleet that once numbered more than 2,700 vessels. It is the oldest U.S. commercial ship still afloat; only the USS Constitution is older. ⠀ ⠀ He frequently takes students across disciplines into the field to gain a more tangible understanding of the patterns that shaped our nation’s interactions with the world. Each year, he takes his students to mysticseaportmuseum to obtain insights from its exhibitions and #livinghistory demonstrations. Such activities are a part of the College of Arts and Sciences’ continuing efforts to foster greater interdisciplinary study between #history, #environmentalstudies and a host of other disciplines.
