Starting tomorrow, documentary photographer Janette Beckman janettephoto will be sharing 10 works from across her career on gettyarchive as part of Women’s History Month. ⁠ Ahead of new exhibition ‘Rebels’ faheykleingallery in May, the takeover brings together portraits from 1979 to 2019 of women at the intersection of music, fashion, art and attitude. Tuning into UK punk and US hip hop, Beckman’s documentary approach sees the album cover in every anonymous passer-by and brings an authenticity to the biggest superstar.⁠ First shooting Salt n Pepa in 1986, before the group had released a record, they got along well and Beckman was invited back to take the cover for their albums and singles like 'Push It' and 'Shake Your Thang'.⁠ Writing in the book 'Rebels: From Punk to Dior', Salt says of this 1987 image: “How could anyone know this would be one of the most recognizable and iconic photos in music history?!
