This Women's History Month, gettyarchive will be taken over by a series of female photographers to share their work and tell their stories. Beginning tomorrow, photographer, artist, and educator Ann E. Zelle introduces her coverage of the Equal Rights Amendment March of 1978. "American actress Esther Rolle (1920 - 1998), star of “Maude” and “Good Times,” (foreground) danced and clapped during the Equal Rights Amendment March in Washington DC, July 9, 1978. Among those visible in the background is NOW (National Organization for Women) President Eleanor Smeal (far left). Despite the high temperatures of July in Washington and the long walk from the Washington Monument to the Capitol Building, participants were full of high spirits and sang and chanted as they marched. Men and Women alike wore white in homage to the suffragists who had marched in Washington for women’s right to vote sixty years earlier." Follow our bio link for more women's history from across our collections. ...
