New to gettyarchive: rarely seen images of Marilyn Monroe by Hungarian photographer Andre de Dienes, muuscollection.
Having shot fashion for the likes of Vogue, Esquire & LIFE magazine, de Dienes was beginning to explore nude and landscape photography when he first met 19-year-old model Norma Jeane Baker in 1945. He would later write in his memoirs, the encounter was "as if a miracle had happened to me".
The earliest colour portraits are a revelation; looking out beneath auburn-hued wavy hair in 1940s fashions, event her smile is altered.
A year later, the shoot is more experimental, Monroe posing with eyes closed in a dark cloth, contrasted against her glowing skin and windswept hair - now blonde.
De Dienes would work with the actress again in the early 1950s, including a remarkable session in which the photographer was summoned by Monroe at 2am, to photograph her illuminated only by the lights of his car.
