Like many of the modern masters, anthony_barboza_photographer began his career in commercial photography, understanding how concept and medium might meet most effectively. With a broad, always inventive aesthetic that encompasses portraiture, documentary and art photography, his career has spanned six decades.
Moving to New York in 1963 and not yet twenty, Barboza studied under the esteemed jazz and fashion photographer Hugh Bell. He would later follow his mentor onto the pages of Esquire and Ebony in an extensive editorial career that saw bylines in The New Yorker, Forbes, Vogue and many more. Barboza photographed artists from across the creative arts, intellectuals, and models in dynamic stance that animated but never overwhelmed the fashion.
