In this aerial view from a drone, candles in the shape of a cross are seen for the approximately 32,000 victims of Covid-19 in Germany on the property of local Gertrud Schop in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia. Gertrud Schop, pictured in the second image, who is Catholic and works as a tax advisor, launched the project last April when the number of victims was under 5,000. She has periodically added more candles as the number of victims has risen, which has been especially dramatic since November, with Germany recently recording up to 932 Covid-related deaths per day. Schop pledged to continue the project until a vaccine became available. Germany launched nationwide inoculations on December 27, so today is the last day Schop will be lighting the candles. l December 30, 2020 l 📷: jens_schlueter_photography l #GettyImagesNews #GettyImages25 #CapturingThePresent
