Acclaimed photojournalist Tom Stoddart began his career 50 years ago this week. The photographer remarked he “started as a trainee photographer on the "Berwick Advertiser" on £6 a week. My boss said ‘you will have a champagne lifestyle on a beer salary. So true!”
After cutting his teeth at the "Advertiser" Tom made his way to London’s storied Fleet Street, before going on to cover momentous World events such as the war in Lebanon, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the bloody siege of Sarajevo and the wars against Saddam Hussein. Tom was also given exclusive behind-the-scenes access to three British Prime Ministers beginning with Tony Blair, and New Labour’s historic landslide in 1997. ⠀
