Oil blotches the ocean surface on April 28, 2010, eight days after an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig killed eleven workers. Before the damaged well was sealed on September 19, an estimated 210 million gallons of oil had leaked into the Gulf of Mexico, spreading across 68,000 square miles. Devastating the ecosystem in the immediate aftermath, ten years on, the effects of both the spill and the clean-up operation are still being assessed.
