Learning his craft on Fleet Street, the London location synonymous with 20th century photojournalism, John Downing was to travel the world with his camera in a career of over fifty years.⁠ The Welsh photographer, who passed away this morning, will be remembered for both his coverage of the world's major conflicts, and his insightful, evocative images of the UK.
