The real thing: James Dean signs autographs during the filming of ‘Giant’, in Marfa, Texas, 1955.
It has been announced that the late actor is to be digitally resurrected for a new Vietnam war drama, with the movie’s directors using existing footage and photographs to create a “full body” CGI double.
Created with permission from the screen icon’s estate, the adaptation of Gareth Crocker’s novel, Finding Jack, aims to add a fourth lead role to Dean’s filmography.
It raises the question however, as to what authenticity an animated likeness, voiced by a living actor, can bring to a role, or a legacy.
What do you think, a game-changer or a travesty?
