Eighteen years after it was banned from release, ‘Yves Saint Laurent: Celebration’ was released in the UK today. Alternatively titled ‘The Last Collection’, director Olivier Meyrou spent three years documenting the French designer at work, just before his retirement in 2002. Suppressed by Saint Laurent’s long-term partner, Pierre Bergé, Meyrou has compared the film to a “wildlife documentary”, attempting to portray a man grown increasingly distant.
