Ashleigh Topley holds her four-month-old daughter Harper in Portadown, Northern Ireland. In 2013, Ashleigh Topley was devastated to learn at a 20-week scan that her baby, Katy, had suffered a fatal foetal abnormality. Under the current abortion laws Ashleigh was forced to carry Katy for a further 15 weeks knowing that her baby wasn’t going to survive. Legislation brought in by MPs at Westminster in the absence of the Northern Ireland power sharing executive means abortion will be decriminalised in the province unless the executive reconvenes by the 21st of October.
