“This was taken on my second visit to Iraq to cover the Mosul offensive to recapture the country's second largest city from Islamic State. By this time, six months in, the fighting had been reduced to brutal house to house combat and I.S were using snipers very effectively to pin down Iraqi forces and slow their advance. A lot of the fighting was taking place from the rooftops of houses in the densely packed old town. I had covered several firefights in similar positions and was expecting more of the same but when I climbed to this rooftop an Iraqi federal policeman was using a helmet on a stick to draw fire from Islamic State in order to make them reveal their position.” - carl_court | April 13, 2017 | #PhotographerTakeover [3 of 4] __ Getty Images news photographer Carl Court is taking over gettyimages today for a closer look at some of his favourite images.
