“One of my most difficult assignments was covering the 2016 European football championship in France. Tournaments in recent years had passed without serious disorder, so there was an assumption the same would happen this time and that the job would be a couple of weeks of photographing fan zones. However, the old problem of hooliganism quickly returned and I found myself covering running riots in the streets of Marseille. Of the thousands of pictures that I took, my favourite by far is this one of an England fan walking through teargas in Marseille. After several canisters were fired at troublemakers, a fan in an England shirt emerged through the smoke. The image was surreal – he seemed almost unaffected by the gas, but the combination of the England shirt and the random flying chairs and bottle with the plumes of smoke illustrated the craziness of the day” - carl_court | June 10, 2016 | #PhotographerTakeover [2 of 4] __ Getty Images news photographer Carl Court is taking over gettyim...
