Swipe left ⬅️ to explore a selection of extraordinary 19th century photomicrographic prints from the Getty Images Archive’s Vintage Room. _ A fly's foot, a moth's antennae, diatoms and a bee’s tongue are pictured here. Beautifully abstract images in their own right, they readily demonstrate the innovative early decades of the medium. This was a time when photography was opening up the wider world to the Victorian public - mapping less explored territories and collapsing great distances meant zooming in, as well as out. The Archive’s Vintage Room currently contains some 30,000 prints and originals excavated from the working files of the library.
