"The day started out very early. I was at
#StandingRock camp at sunrise and was struck immediately by the
#flames glowing in the darkness. It was eerie walking through a campsite I had seen bustling with life now reduced to debris and a handful of people milling around. The ground was muddy and ashes mixed in with rain and snow from the sky. The large fire you see in the picture was from a hogan and people gathered around it to watch it burn. It felt ritualistic and solemn, but also empowering for the people as if they were taking ownership of the camp's destruction. The scene was quiet and fires soon erupted in other structures around camp." - thewestisblue | Febuary 22, 2017 |
