‘The people rescued were taken on board the Golfo Azzurro. We stayed there under the orders of the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre of Rome. They asked us to join rescue operations and also to transfer rescued people to Sicily. By the evening of Saturday we had on board 466 people. The boat was packed. Proactiva Open Arms NGO’s volunteers gave them blankets and some food during the 20 hours sailing towards the port of Pozzallo. It was a successful operation but a rubber boat with 120 people on board was not found. It is like an airplane with 120 people on board had crashed in the Mediterranean. This is happening almost every day in the Mediterranean.' - davidramosgetty | February 18, 2017
