Sojourner Truth, whose legal name was Isabella Van Wagener, was born into slavery but later freed. She worked as an abolitionist, a suffragette, and an evangelist who traveled throughout the Midwest drawing large crowds. She supported herself by selling copies of her book, The Narrative of Sojourner Truth.| 📷: Jack Mitchell | 1860s |
