I really wanted to learn, but I was too shy to ask. So I went home and tried to figure it out. This was back when there was no YouTube, so there was no way for me to look up a tutorial or anything. I just made dumb brute force attempts to do it. At first I couldn’t even keep it on my finger for 2 seconds. But then I could do 5 seconds… and then 10 seconds… and then 30 seconds!  It was the first time I remember learning something on my own - not something I learned in school, or was taught by anyone. I remember feeling so satisfied that I went from having no idea how to do something - to mastering it.
