Almost half of London’s citizens say that the current mayor’s record on knife crime is poor or very poor according to a new survey conducted for the London Real Party on behalf of Mortar Research.
With a majority of voters in more than half of the capital’s boroughs suggesting that Sadiq Khan’s attempts to deal with knife crime are failing, it is also telling that a mere 9% of respondents to our survey indicated that he has done “very well” on this most important of issues.
The truth is this: Metropolitan Police-recorded knife crime rose by a fifth in the last year, and London’s knife crime rates are well above the English average: roughly 10.1 people for every 100,000 residents are admitted to hospital having been assaulted with a knife or sharp object in London, compared with 6.2 admissions per 100,000 across England as a whole.
