Summertime means it’s time for HU Freedom School! Historically, Freedom Schools were part of the Civil Rights Movement, rooted in the Mississippi Freedom Summer project of 1964. The temporary, alternative, schools were for established to help African Americans achieve social, political and economic equality in the US and were primarily located in the South. The Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School is a 6-week summer literacy & cultural enrichment program for K-12.
