When I think of home, I think of two places: my hometown, Detroit, Michigan, and Howard University. I call
#Howard home because it is where I truly began to grow into the woman that I find in the mirror today. What I know for sure is not another university on this planet could have adequately prepared me for my adult life and professional career. Howard gave me a sense of identity; Howard gave me a glimpse into my potential; Howard introduced me to a village that has lifted me up and carried me for close to two decades. As a graduate of the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Sciences, a computer programming student turned patent attorney, and as an African-American woman, I constantly operate in spaces where it would be completely possible for me to feel inadequate and unsupported.
