Our
#CoJMCAlumni spotlight this week is Shawn Peirce, a Lincoln native.
.
Shawn, a 1999 broadcasting grad, is a marketing associate at Decatur Marine & SeaNet. He is also a freelance media producer in the Washington, D.C., area.
.
Shawn said he values the friends and mentors he had while studying at the CoJMC. .
“My time at the J-School helped confirm the field of journalism – and more broadly, media – that I’d already been working in professionally, was the right choice for my talents,” he said.
.
Shawn said the most important thing he learned from the CoJMC was the basic rules of ethical journalism.
.
“...the noise and clamor of today’s media landscape can sometimes leave us wondering where to find legitimate news,” he said. “If one has a basic understanding of ethical journalism, however, it’s a lot easier to isolate the signals from the noise, and amplify those sources with integrity to audiences and individuals who would otherwise be disoriented and confused.”
