The debate on whether to implement a shot clock into high school basketball is growing, especially with the rise of televised high school games. In my opinion, shot clocks should be added—possibly 30 or 35 seconds. I don’t think it should be as quick as the NBA, but these “super teams” in high school are meant for entertainment. People pay money to go watch nationally ranked players, and for teams to hold the ball and play keep away is disappointing to the viewers. Don’t get me wrong, holding the ball is definitely a strategy, especially when you’re outmatched. However, people want to be entertained. Aside from the entertainment point, a shot clock would prepare high level players for the next level. Players need to learn how to take pressure shots and make snap decisions in order to excel at the next level. A shot clock will only enhance their ability to do this. What are your thoughts—should there or should there not be a shot clock in high school basketball?
