The photo was taken January 1945, near Gavinana, - a small town in the mountains of North Tuscany, Italy. I have visited Gavinana a couple times - hoping to find this location , but no luck just yet. . This group photo was taken just before they saw any of the serious combat. Such young men - all around very early twenties. I just can’t even imagine. .
