Mickalene Thomas’ works featured in the exhibiton, Do I Look Like a Lady is a video collage comprised of clips of female comedians and singers that shift across the screen in complex and unpredictable patterns. Among the performers featured are Josephine Baker, Jackie "Moms" Mabley, Wanda Sykes, and Whitney Houston. The 12-minute, two-channel video presents a politically poignant, humorous, and evocative portrait of diverse expressions of womanhood, building on Thomas' ongoing reconsideration of black female identity.
