I got pepper balled today and threatened with violent arrest. All in a days work as a reporter. We were at Emory University to cover demonstrations against what they called the ruthless genocide of Palestinians. Police gave several commands to disperse and then moved in detaining the crowd, which appeared to be made up of students and non-students. The coalition of activists included protestors of Cop City. Those I spoke to said the intersection between Atlanta and Israel is the state funded police violence against communities of color. There is also a program called the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange Program which sends Atlanta PD officers to train with the IDF in Israel. The crowd here was protesting that program as well. The scene is calm here now have a very tense 5-10 minutes. We are OK.
